The Phoenix Self: In Search of Methuselah is a teaching novel weaving literature and science with facts and fiction to explore a new horizon of longevity. Enrique Lugo, the psychological anthropologist featured in Dr. Mario Martinez's previous novel, The Man from Autumn, is brought back. This time, to discover a mistranslation from ancient archives in the Vatican Secret Library that could change what we know about healthspan and our concept of immortality. But before Enrique can decipher the implications of his finding, he must course five attainments necessary to reach the Methuselah Threshold: A time when the collective unconscious opens portals of interminable longevity.

Methuselah lived from 687 AM to 1656 AM, presumptively, 969 years. Perhaps The Phoenix Self could be the prolepsis of longevity, not so patiently awaiting confirmation from the horizons of immortality. In The Phoenix Self, Martinez applies what he discovered from his extensive research with the longest living centenarians to what we could achieve if we welcome prolepsis in our lives. The novel celebrates, that although life expectancy is advancing unimpressively slowly, centenarians are the fastest growing segment of the world's population. Join Enrique and his esoteric friends on a journey, born in fiction, and extrapolated from longevity science, to orchestrate a life abundant in exalted emotions and higher cognitions.
