A Monthly Experiential Series
The Phoenix Self is not a book-club series. It is a psychological novel in which its characters learn to live the Five Attainments of centenarian consciousness.
In this monthly online series, we will bring those attainments out of the story and into our lives. Each gathering will also prepare us for the Spring 2027 Young Methuselahs Immersion in Spain, where we will embody the Five Attainments within the cultural terrain that inspired them.
Before each online gathering, participants are required to read the corresponding attainment in The Phoenix Self. The reading creates our shared terrain; the meeting is devoted to living what the characters learn.
THE FIRST ATTAINMENT
Constructing and Living Your Personal Cosmology: Resolving Fear of Death and Love
The personal cosmology you construct must include what you’re doing on Earth, and what happens when your physical journey is over.”
A personal cosmology is not inherited dogma, nor is it an attempt to prove what lies beyond physical existence. It is a deliberate choice about what gives meaning to your life, what you believe happens when physicality ends, and how deeply you are willing to live that choice.
As Father Lorenzo teaches Enrique:
Choosing your cosmology is more about finding peace than making sense.
Your cosmology may be grounded in God, Nature, the Universe, intelligent design, implicate intelligence, or the belief that consciousness ends with the body. The purpose is not to determine who is right. The attainment is to construct and live a cosmology that brings meaning, clarity, resilience, and serene courage to your journey.
During this experiential gathering, you will:
Distinguish an inherited cosmology from one you have consciously chosen.
Explore what gives meaning to your existence here and now.
Consider what you choose to believe happens when physicality ends.
Examine how your cosmology influences fear of death and the courage to love.
Begin constructing a personal cosmology you can live rather than merely profess.
Experience the Prayer of Quiet as an entry into wisdom beyond linear reasoning.
